Appreciating the service of Mark Wake
27 MAY 2022 And so tomorrow marks the end of my 30+ years with HSBC and I wanted to say thank you to so many people. I hope that leaders and colleagues - past and present who I’ve worked with - will get to read this and know my appreciation and gratitude for the support, help and friendship they gave me as we worked together. Before I move onto the next exciting life journey (with so much planned) - I’ve taken time to reflect on where has 30 years gone - what did I learn and what do I take with me ? I joined as a fresh graduate into Midland bank that soon became HSBC and as I reflect upon my time at this company there’s one big thing that jumps out - people make a business. I joined the company because of the people I met - their values, culture and approach to life - and that’s stayed with me through the whole of my career be that Midland Bank or HSBC UK. I’m not really convinced that banking propositions vary that much or help with a competitive edge - but I do know that the greatest asset of any organisation is its people - and I’ve worked with the best. I’ve had the pleasure of working for and with some outstanding people - I better not name check unless I forget someone - but they gave me their time - guided me, supported me and gave me plenty of nudges in the right direction when I needed it. Over the last 30 years - work has been a centre piece of my life - and at HSBC I lived through many life events, good and bad - but I've always been supported by the firm and it’s people - my family and I are so grateful. My big lessons moving forward are that you’ll quickly forget the business initiative or the metrics that seemed to be important at the time - but the difference you make to people and the wider society are the important experiences that live with you forever. https://www.facebook.com/groups/295416768840386
