Appreciating the service of Jack McLaren
6 YEARS SERVICE https://www.facebook.com/groups/295416768840386 Can’t believe it’s been 6 years already since joining HSBC, after working in so many different roles, gaining loads of experience and meeting some wonderful people. I still remember the day I actually applied back in August 2017 as a 25-year-old lad, just popped by in the Food Hall at Marks and Spencer Manchester on Market Street for my lunch for the day, never realising that M&S Bank existed on the second floor, after seeing the job advert on the window for a Bank Assistant role. After going up to visit the branch and meeting my colleague, Linda Ann Hughes, who is now one of my best friends, and Clare Hughes, who was the Network Manager at the time, I knew this was the job that I wanted to go into, and had high hopes and dreams of where I wanted my career path to go. I immediately went to the library at St Peter’s Square to print off my CV, applied online on the HSBC website, and then went back to the branch to hand it in and let them know. By the time I got back to the car park around 2pm that day, I was just about to start the engine in the car, when I had a phone call from Shelly Todman to invite me for an interview the next day. To cut a long story short, I had the interview with Clare Hughes and Sophie Glynn, who was the Senior Bank Assistant, and at the end of the week, I was told that I was successful. The past 6 years have been an extraordinary journey though, following an announcement in December 2017, as soon as I started, to say that I was at risk of redundancy as the branch was to become a Digital branch. Luckily enough I secured my role still, and became a Digital Advocate and Authorised Signatory. In January 2020, I moved to M&S Bank Handforth so that I could move up the ladder, but after two months, COVID happened, and I began dealing with Elderly & Vulnerable Customers at risk by reduced access to their banking, followed by being a Team Leader in Disputes for 6 months. In December 2020, I supported the M&S Bank Digital Support Team with Authenticated Live Chat, then later on in May 2021, I was made at risk of redundancy as they closed all the M&S Bank branches. I’ve always been a go getter, and someone who never gives up. After reaching out and contacting Kerri Mills and Jackie U. after meeting them at the Spotlight Awards, I thankfully secured a permanent remote worker role with HSBC, doing what I’m doing now, as a Digital Customer Advocate Specialist for Social Media & Chat Resources, working from home. All of the above is my appreciation, as I’m so grateful for everything HSBC have done for me. I’m so proud to be part of a team that values everyone and everything, and I love what I do. You don’t even realise the time passing by. I just want to say thanks to all those who have encouraged, inspired, supported, and motivated me throughout my journey.
