MESSAGE KINDLY SHARED BY BOB KNOX
I have been advised by Margaret Smith that my good friend Roger Smith suddenly collapsed and died on Saturday evening. He was on board his canal boat moored in Northampton.
He had had a good day and enjoyed a BBQ at the canal basin with some friends before boarding the boat which he bought when he retired as the branch manager of Regent Street some 20 years ago.
He and I had worked together in the 1970s and 1980s at Maidstone RHO first as BSAs/ACAs and then as Controllers. From there he went to Crawley Area Office.
In the 1970s he introduced me to Round Table and both of us remained in both RT and 41 club for evermore. He was also a Rotarian and raised substantial money for Guide Dogs for the blind. He and Margaret have continued to live in the Maidstone area. Sadly I had not seen him since 2019 pre covid.
A great person and loyal friend who will be sadly missed by everyone.
RIP.
ADDITIONAL MESSAGE KINDLY SHARED BY BOB KNOX ON 15 JUNE 2022
Today I have attended Roger Smiths Memorial service in Maidstone.
There were some 200 people in attendance including Tony Fuller, David Mills, Bob Wyatt and other bank people.
It was a moving tribute to a remarkable and generous man.
RIP
