On Monday 5th September 1966 my first day and a thirty-year term of ups and downs began, with the then Midland Bank, Bedford High Street branch. It closed in the 1990's when it moved to Allhallows in the shopping centre.

The first floor with the windows painted over housed the Machine Room. For anyone who worked at this branch there is a fascinating bird's eye view of the ground floor office layout as it was in 1966 which brings back so many memories on this site Credit Transfers (martinsbank.co.uk).

In those days it had a staff of around 50 (no computers!) and ten cashier positions. I spent my time there on Rems, Standing Orders, the Correspondence desk and cashiering before transferring to St Albans.

So many memories.
