I have a copy of this document dated December 1933.

There are some interesting statements in it which us oldies from the 60s may remember. These are:-

Daily examination of all vouchers for technical irregularities

National Savings Certificates. Stock to be checked monthly. The certificates are to be kept under dual control.

A daily examination of the register of Limited and Travellers Cheques by the manager is to be made to satisfy himself that Head Office has been credited.

All Cheques which are dishonoured for lack of funds are to be recorded in the Reference Book under the name of the customer.

A specimen of each customer's signature should be taken in the Signature Book:- where. a mandate form is taken, this should be pasted in the Guard Book.

Branches may obtain from the Head Office Accountant forms for passport applications

A staff return is to be made by October containing the following details for each member of staff:-

Name, Address, Date of Birth, Date of entering service, Examinations passed ( with particulars of any distinctions), manager's classification, salary, number of days absent ( whether holidays, illness or leave and number of times late) and any remarks the manager may wish to make.

There are other entries relating to the lunacy of customers, the control of the letter box which makes me wonder how managers had the time to do all that they were required to do in these regulations in the 1930s.
