KINDLY SHARED BY ROGER WHITING ON 4 MARCH 2024
R.I.P. Geoff Chaplin.
Geoff sadly passed away in Marie Curie Hospice on 1st February, having been admitted there with an unoperable Brain Tumour just two weeks earlier.
Geoff joined Midland Bank at Coleshill Branch in the early 1960s, and served them and HSBC loyally until his Retirement just a few years into the new Century. He served at several Branches in the Birmingham Area, including quite a lengthy spell at New Street Branch. Then moved into several Senior Management in Birmingham Regional Head Office, before ending his service as a Branch Auditor, working at Branches throughout the Country.
Geoff played football and cricket for the Midland Bank Birmingham Teams, and was an excellent all round Sportsman, taking easily and successfully to the game of Golf during his latter years, and he became Club Captain of Olton (Solihull) Golf Club, which was a great and well- deserved achievement.
His funeral at St, Alphege Church in Solihull on the 1st March, and the Wake ar Olton Golf Club, were very well attended by many friends and his family.
He leaves two children, Nicola and Ian, plus 5 Grandchildren. Rest in Peace Geoff.
You will be very sadly missed by so many.

Very sad to hear. I remember Geoff. His name always comes to the fore when I think back over my banking days. I never actually worked at same locations at same time as him, but more via former banking colleagues and playing local cricket against him. Very well respected, well remembered and a fine cricketer.
Love to his family and close friends.
So sorry to hear of the passing of "me Dad on tour"- Geoff Chaplin. Although I never worked with Geoff at any branches, I have very many fond and funny memories of our midweek cricket matches, and one week annual tour of North Devon, during my 10 years with the Bank.
