Colin Lawson Wilson - my Dad, died on 7/7/24. He slipped away peacefully after 95 years in Glen Rosa MHA. He retired in 1986 after 40+ years in Midland Bank so his retirement wasn’t that far short of being equal to his working life. Lucky man! He joined the bank in Ilkley and moved regularly as he was promoted, working in Selby, York, Harrogate training branch and Prospect Crescent Harrogate before moving to Oxted college as a tutor.
After his stint there he moved to Exchange Place Middlesbrough and then to Whitley Bay as Branch Manager before ending his long career as Deputy Area Manager at East Northumberland in Cramlington. Having worked within Midland and then HSBC myself in 1982 (until 2021) I came across many of his former colleagues. I am very proud that they all describe him as a true gentleman - because that’s what he was. (I’m sure he made them work hard - but was a gentleman along the way)
He was always very loyal to the bank and was saddened that most of the branches he worked in no longer exist.
When Mum died much of Dad’s purpose died with her as he was her main carer and they were together for 68 years. Lucky man. My brothers and sister and I were also very lucky - so glad we were able to be around for him especially in these last few weeks. You can’t really complain when the Death Certificate cites Frailty and Old Age as the cause of death.
The funeral service is 23rd July at 11am at Ben Rhydding Methodist Church, Ilkley.
