Brian Chapman R.I.P - 28 May 2022

Updated: Jun 12, 2022

EMAIL KINDLY SHARED BY ANDREW CHAPMAN

I am emailing to advise that dad passed away on 28th May.

He retired from the bank on ill health grounds following a heart attack in 1993. His last role was as Area Manager of the West Yorkshire Area. At that time the area comprised all branches in the Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Wakefield areas. From memory i think that this was actually the largest area grouping in the bank at the time.

Apart from a short spell in Hitchin branch between 1974 and 1979 Dad worked in Yorkshire. As well as working in many branches and area offices he also worked in the Regional Head office in Leeds.

As a family we have quite a connection with the Bank. Dad met to be wife, Mary, at Wakefield Westgate Branch back in the early 60’s. Mary joined the bank at Wakefield Branch in 1956. By the time dad joined Wakefield branch in 1960 mum was quite senior to him. She was on the Correspondence Desk whilst dad started off, as we all did then even up until the 80’s !!, on the Remittances. They married in March 64. Mum left in 1965 to have me and thereafter a further daughter and son.

Myself joined the bank Sept 82 started at Dewsbury branch. Left Sept 2012.

Daughter Jane Chapman joined First Direct the month prior to launch in Sept 89 and left them in June 2001.

Son Richard joined the bank August 1988 started at Wakefield Branch. Left November 2008.

A combined family service of 104 years.
