16 AUGUST 2021
50 years ago today I knocked on the heavy oak doors of Vicar Lane, Leeds with trepidation for my very first day in the bank. Ken, the head messenger, let me in.
I was introduced to Paul Rostron, the accountant, and, at some stage, John Steed the manager.
Yvonne (can’t remember her surname) started the same day.
It had a staff of around 100 in those days.
I started on deposit ledgers behind the main counter.
Never left the bank until retirement.
