50 years in the bank this week. Joined October 1971 and worked at many branches across the Merseyside area. A number of former staff visited Lord Street, Southort Branch to mark the occasion with Menna. Sarah Hill wrote a poem to celebrate Mennas time (up to now) in the bank.
Congratulations Menna. To our lovely Menna. 50 years service and still on the go,
You’ve had a great time with all the colleagues you know. Back in the day when The Griffin was King,
The Listening Bank said yes and took you under their wing. It was 1971, your first day was at Seaforth branch as Miss Evans.
You went home for lunch and told Dad you weren’t going back!
Heavens knows, Parental inspiration kept you on track! Crosby, Bootle, and Aintree you have been,
Now at Southport, that’s quite a few branches you’ve been seen! All those years ago when the mini skirt was in,
There was no such thing as the Confi Bin.
No Auditing took place at that time; these days that would NOT be fine. There was a young boy called Pete, who was a customer you wished to meet.
Love blossomed over the Seaforth counter,
And guess what, you ended up in a romantic encounter!
Carol used to say she needed a green pen ha ha!
In order to allow Pete to chat up young Menna. Going back to the good old days of Seaforth by the Docks,
The Ladies of the Night used to come in in their sexy Frocks.
Questions were asked how they got their cash,
Not realising these ladies were up for a big bash! When on Annual Leave, the Mediterranean Sea is where you love to cruise,
On board Cunard, you just love the booze!
Portmeirion was also the place to be,
On the North Wales Coast, you could relax and look out to sea. 50 years of making very good friends over the time,
You are popular with everyone, we all look up to you as we see you shine and shine. Congratulations is all that is left to say,
