Appreciating the service of our friends and colleagues
Gillian Holmes
27 OCTOBER 2020
40 years ago today I started my weeks induction course in Liverpool and I'm still with the bank now!
Cant say I've loved every minute but I met my husband and many life long friends through working for the bank so it's not been all bad!

A LINKEDIN POST FROM HELEN DURRANT
So, today I celebrated 20 years with #HSBCUK, and I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone I've met, worked with, and become a lifelong friend with during all these years.
My time in the Retail Bank was fabulous, but not without it's occasional challenges. However, they have made me the stronger person I am today.
And, 3 years ago, when I made the transition to #HSBCCMB, I haven't looked back. It was definitely the right move. And now to #GLCM where I've been since January 2020.
It really has been the most extraordinary year, but I'm looking forward to 2021.
Celebrating tonight with a bottle of wine that my dear friend and colleague, Jonathan Rutter, bought me when I got the GLCM job in January.
I'm raising a glass to him, as he isn't here to be able celebrate - if he was, and under 'normal' circumstances, we'd be off out for a slap up meal with lots of wine!
Thank you to all those who have joined me today - it's really made my day xxx

A LINKEDIN POST FROM JENNY - 15 OCTOBER 2020
I decided to celebrate 15 years working at HSBC by treating myself to a cake.
I don't need much of a reason to buy cakes, but it seemed like a good enough reason to me.

2nd October 1972 I turned up for my first day at Midland Bank Highfield Road Blackpool (now Italio restaurant) how can it be 48 years!!
I’ve had a blast, I’m still working, now of course for HSBC and have worked with some fabulous people over the years.
I’ve had a very varied career, travelling the country for 15 years working for O&M, BSI and what ever else they chose to call us.
I worked in marketing department and of course in branch banking where I am today.

I joined Midland Bank 30 years ago at New Milton today !
I remember it causing a bit of a commotion as I had previously worked for Lloyd's and whilst I started back on Rem because I was experienced I quickly made it to the counter leapfrogging some of the other Rem clerks to the position.
There was a strict hierarchical code in those days and it ruffled a few feathers !
I talked to the customers too much and whilst the wealth team loved it because I was always booking them appointments my till never balanced !
My manager at the time however spotted potential pulled me to one side and said I think you would be better in a customer facing role rather than on the counter and my career in wealth was born!
Been in various roles since then and loved my Wealth journey through the bank.
Not bad considering I was only staying for a year !

Another year older but more importantly 48 years service not out.
I actually challenged the UK head to make sure that they review the long service awards over the next 2 years.
My thanks to those colleagues who took the time to offer me their congratulations.

50 years ago today I knocked on the door of Chesterton Road, Cambridge to start my first day of work and 50 years later I’m still knocking on the door albeit at a different branch in Suffolk.
How banking has changed in that time but working with all my colleagues over the years has been the best. X

I can’t believe that today I’ve worked for the Bank for 40 years !!
I joined in 1980 when Midland Bank offered me a job at my interview (doesn’t happen that way these days)
During my first week I remember going home and telling my Mum how I couldn’t believe that there were ladies, that had worked there for 10 years !!!!
That was never going to be me.
Who would have thought that 40 years later I’d be on secondment to the Financial Support Team, working from home on a laptop.

21 JULY 2020
40 years service today and thoroughly spoilt by my team, the Comms Management Team and two surprise guests who treated me to a virtual celebration on Zoom followed by flowers and Champagne being delivered to the door.
I would just like to say a big hello and thank you to all the friends and colleagues I have worked with over the years.
That includes working at 25 retail branches across the South Coast from Wimborne in Dorset to Bognor Regis in West Sussex, 3 Area Offices Portsmouth Commercial Road, Southampton Cumberland Place and Norwich House Southampton with 8CS London and 1CS Birmingham as team bases and last but not least my work with the Horizons team when under the CVM umbrella.
A very varied career with many adventures and plenty of changes.
Along with my first full payslip of £183.88 and annual salary of £2335, I found the following which made me laugh - Area Magazines and daily circulars were the means of communication long before the Horizons Facebook page, HSBC blogs and Twitter.

Earliest memory was a 2 week induction course in London.
I loved working those early days.

16 FEBRUARY 2020
So 36 years ago today, I knocked on the big wooden door of Midland Bank at Broadgreen Branch, Liverpool (later to be a sub branch to Old Swan, Liverpool) to start my first job.
Little did I know what an amazing career and opportunities would open up for me.
During my career with HSBC I have met so many incredible and inspiring people, some are still a huge part in my life and have become close friends (too many to mention).
From Liverpool to Jersey (Guernsey & Isle of Man) and now to Birmingham HQ, still enjoying my fantastic career journey and meeting new colleagues and external partners.
Timing is fantastic, as tomorrow I look forward to a reunion with friends and colleagues from HSBC Old Swan branch, Liverpool.
Some of us haven’t seen each other for over 28 years!
